LEAFWARE FEATURED ON TOP CHEF

As you may remember from our earlier blog post, we recently added Leafware products to our collection, and so far, many of our customers have discovered how stylish and functional they are as alternatives to paper plates and bowls.

It seems they're not the only ones, though! The latest episode of "Top Chef" on Bravo actually featured Leafware plates and bowls. The square plates and round bowls were used to present the chefs creations for judging and for the guests who were assembled for a soiree in the swamp.

The finished dishes were absolutely breathtaking, and it was great to see Leafware in action. You can see the video for yourself here. And for a quick refresher--Leafware plates and bowls are 100 percent biodegradable and compostable dinnerware that is made from dried leaves discarded from palm trees. As the video shows, they have a gorgeous natural look and are great for entertaining.

Congratulations to Leafware on being featured on the show!

New Stats Show Europe Is Making Progress on Paper Waste

In the past, we've covered the massive problem of plastic waste in the European Union, and while Europe is still trying to sort out the best ways to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills, a new report shows that the EU has managed to reduce paper use and disposal rates.

Some of the key findings of the report include:

- In 1992, only 41 percent of all paper was recycled in the countries that now make up the European Union.

- As of 2012, roughly 71 percent of all paper was recycled.

- Paper use was reduced by 13 percent and is now at the lowest levels it has been since 1998

- Rates for paper recycling are lowest in Central Europe

Clearly, Europe is headed in the right direction in terms of paper waste recycling; however, only 40 percent of the total of all waste produced throughout the EU is recycled, indicating there is still a lot of work to be done to make Europe green.

Paperless Kitchen Gets Some Press!

We have some exciting news! Just last week, we were featured on the CBS website! A link to our store was published on a page related to a segment that aired on The Talk, in which actress Sara Gilbert gave a variety of green tips to help viewers decrease the size of their eco-footprints.

Among the tips that Sara reviewed was to choose more sustainable utensils for cooking. She explained that wood, glass or bamboo tools and dinnerware was better for the body and the planet than plastic. On the website recap, a link to Paperless Kitchen was provided as the place to shop.

We're very proud to have been selected for inclusion on the buying guide for Sara's piece. We do have a large number of sustainable kitchen utensils and dinnerware available on our site and are glad to have the opportunity to introduce our products to the viewers of The Talk. You can catch the show daily at 2:00PM EST on CBS.
